37 Weeks!

Standard

I’m 37 weeks pregnant today, which is a milestone – if Luke is born, a stay in the NICU is no longer required! That doesn’t mean it won’t happen (though we pray it doesn’t!), but it’s not a certainty – and I like that.

Luke is head down (not breech – yay!) and I have no idea if he has “dropped” yet. How do I tell? The list of things I don’t know grows by the day.

However, the list of things that need to be done before Luke arrives is getting shorter (yes, there is a literal list hanging on the fridge). Once I cross everything off, feel free to come out and play, Little Guy!

We will have a final growth scan next Thursday, so please keep praying that Luke is getting bigger and that my fluid levels are rising (or are at least above 5). Now that I’m drinking at least 100 ounces of water per day, I feel his kicks a lot more! I think he’s swimming in all of the extra fluid :)

Finally, Mom, Chris, Kourt and the kids are on a cruise to Mexico, Belize and Honduras until Sunday – and of course mom is freaking out about Luke coming while she’s at sea. I don’t see it happening, and I’m happy to report that we are now half way through their vacation with no signs of labor (knock on wood)! Let’s keep Luke cooking until Nana and Company return :)

Feeling Extra Blessed Lately

Feeling Extra Blessed Lately

These past few weeks I have been feeling “extra blessed.” Like God is “closer than normal” – I’m not sure if that’s possible, since he’s always with us, but I like it :)

His Word speaks more clearly. Praise songs ring deeper. His love, provision and protection are evident at every turn. His blessings are abundant. My heart is overflowing with gratitude, love and joy. Could it be because Luke will be here in 4-ish weeks? It’s probably part of it. But I keep telling myself that Luke isn’t my child – he’s God’s. God is trusting me with this most precious little boy, and it is the most amazing, humbling and slightly terrifying responsibility ever. I am so excited to meet him, to shower him with love and to tell him all about our Savior. I am grateful for the joys and burdens of parenthood that await – and I pray to have them every day, until I am standing in heaven. And I am thankful for each of you who has walked beside us through this pregnancy – your prayers and love have seen us through some highs and lows (thankfully more highs than lows!), and we ask that you keep them coming!

As evidence of the extra blessings, here is a photo of Luke at 35 weeks, 4 days – he finally cooperated with the 3D ultrasound!

If you’re of the praying type, please pray that Luke continues to grow and that my fluid levels continue to go up. Last week, we found out my amniotic fluid was at a 7 – anything below 5 would require bed rest/hospitalization and induction; “normal” is in the teens. We’re working our way up with lots of water and healthy eating! Also, he’s a smaller guy (though totally healthy), but it wouldn’t hurt for him to get a little taller and put on some ounces before he gets here :)

Showering Luke with Love!

Showering Luke with Love!

Luke’s baby shower was last weekend and it was FANTASTIC! Everything was beautiful, the food was yummy and it was great to see so many of our friends and family all gathered together to celebrate our baby boy. The shower was hosted by my mom, sister and good friend Nikki (decorator/planer extraordinaire!) and I couldn’t have envisioned anything better – like me, it was simple, fun and easygoing but with a touch of sass :)

One thing is for sure – Luke is LOVED! So many people can’t wait to meet him and were kind enough to shower us with love, prayers and gifts. I can say without a doubt that this little boy’s furniture, clothes and belongings are nicer than most of mine! But the nurses in baby class told us that it’s impossible to spoil a baby, so no worries there :)

Just about every one of his “required” items have been taken care of – crib/dresser, stroller/car seat, pack n play, swing, mattress, bottles, etc. thanks to our amazing friends and family. Last night I wrote approximately 10 million thank you notes and was overcome with gratitude all over again! Our boy is so loved and I cannot wait to introduce him to everyone in 6-ish weeks!

Are You There, Blog? It’s Me, Brittney.

Standard

So it’s been almost a  year two years (math is hard) since the last time the ol’ blog was updated and nothing of any significance has happened. OH WAIT…we got another dog, went on our dream European vacation, started trying to have a baby, found out that my infertility issues meant we’d require IVF treatments, went on some fab vacations, miraculously got pregnant, AND SO MUCH MORE!

I realize it’s impossible to catch up on a year’s worth of life in just a few bullets (because really, who wants to read more than that?), but  here’s a best effort…or at least an effort. Note: I will save The Infertility Saga for another time.

  • Summer 2013 – We went to Michigan to surprise Chad’s stepdad, Brent, for his 50th birthday party! We also went to Florida for the first annual Family Feud Fantasy Football Draft!
  • Fall 2013 – We got Abby! Yes, we added a second corgi to our family and she’s obsessed with Chad. It works out nicely because Cooper is obsessed with me and now we each have our own furball :) Abby is now 8.5 and Cooper is just over 2; both weigh about 34 pounds :)
  • December 2013 – CHAD TURNED 30! I lied and told him we were going to Mexico, but we actually went to pick up his family and best friend at the airport for a long weekend of fun :) Although I know Chad was slightly disappointed in not going to Mexico, I know he was truly surprised and thrilled his family was in town. I also threw him a surprise party that weekend, so it was kind of a big deal (he has his work cut out for him when I turn 30 in 2016!)
  • February 2014 – I turned 28 and decided it was time to think about starting a family!
  • June 2014 – WE WENT ON OUR DREAM VACATION TO EUROPE! Two weeks in Rome, Paris and Barcelona. Hands down, our favorite spot was Paris. It was the most beautiful, romantic and tasty city EVER (and of course, the most expensive). We agree that if we ever win the lottery or come into a large sum of money, we’d have a house in Paris :)
  • October 2014 – We went to Chicago with Chad’s best friend Joe and his girlfriend Ali – IT WAS AWESOME. We did all of the big touristy things in 36 hours – Hancock Building, Sears Tower, museums, deep dish pizza, visited the bar from The League, Second City, architecture cruise, amazing food…it was a whirlwind!
  • December 2014 – Haley and Mike got married and we celebrated with a ton of folks I hadn’t seen in forever!
  • January 9-10, 2015 – I went on a work trip to Santa Fe, NM and didn’t feel well.
  • January 11, 2015 – WE FOUND OUT WE’RE PREGNANT!!! Go ahead and tell God something can’t be done – he’ll LOL at you.
  • March 2015 – We went to Michigan to visit Chad’s family and had a great time!  Yoga, games and all of the usual fun (minus the booze, for me).
  • April 27, 2015 – I felt the baby move (for sure) for the first time!
  • May 7, 2015 – Chad felt the baby move for the first time!
  • May 8, 2015 – OUR GENDER REVEAL IS TOMORROW, Y’ALL!!
  • May 9, 2015 – My first Mother’s Day :)

There are approximately 11 million photos I could post from the above adventures, but I know which one you really want :)

We’re (Puppy) Parents!!

We’re (Puppy) Parents!!

That’s right! Just four short days after moving into our house, we became parents of the world’s most adorable Corgi, Cooper! He’s 6.6 pounds of cuddly, adorable cuteness! We couldn’t be happier :)

Cooper loves to play fetch with his mini tennis balls, tug on his rope and give lots of sweet puppy kisses. He likes to cuddle and is an excellent sleeper thus far – last night, on his first night in our house, he only whimpered for about 5-10 minutes before curling up in his puppy bed and sleeping through the night! He didn’t even go potty on the floor – like a CHAMP!

But I know what you’ve really come for – PICTURES!! Here you go :)

We’re Homeowners!!!

Standard

That’s right! We finally closed on our house last Thursday!!! WHOO HOO!!!

This is a major milestone in our lives – we’re first time homebuyers, which is something that won’t happen again! Our house is 2,626 square feet and is in Spring, Texas – right between The Woodlands Mall and Vintage Park (an upscale shopping center). Clearly this was a strategic decision on my part :)

The house has four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms – the master is downstairs with all others upstairs. The smallest bedroom is being used as Chad’s office/man cave :) We have a formal dining room and an eat-in kitchen, in addition to a GIANT living room and upstairs sitting area/loft. Needless to say, there is no shortage of space for the two of us!

You can view pictures of our house here, and I promise to post some updated photos (that include some decoration and furniture!) soon!

So far, everything has been GREAT. The house is in near perfect condition (minus the garbage disposal and shower door!) – and those small issues are being addressed this week. It’s great to just come home and it be YOURS. Even if your voice echoes off the walls/high ceilings, due to a lack of things to fill the room and an abundance of ceramic tile :) And as someone who has never been able to park in the garage before, that part is really exciting! It makes me legit.

We can’t wait to have people over and hope to have a housewarming party soon! You’re all invited! Lord knows we have room for you :)

The Game of Life

Standard

Oy – I thought last week was great! This week has taken the cake – and it isn’t even over yet!

Chad put it best last night when he said it’s like we’re playing The Game of Life…and WINNING! It seems we’re spinning all the right numbers and landing on all the right spaces this week. Not that we really have anything to do with it – to GOD be the glory! We’ve prayed earnestly for these things to happen in His timing, and that’s exactly what’s happening.

The week started off on Sunday – a great message at church, an impromptu lunch date and then we drove out to Cleveland to meet our brand new PUPPY! His name is Cooper and he was born on February 7 – that’s right, we share a birthday! He’s a pure bred Corgi (the breed we’ve wanted for so long!) and can officially come home with us once he’s old enough – April 2.

Then on Monday we got the news we’d be anxiously awaiting for 8 days – WE GOT THE HOUSE!!! We’re officially under contract for our first home in Spring, Texas. Things get REALLY real when you start writing big checks! The inspection is Saturday, so we’re praying for nothing but good news.

Tuesday was Mardi Gras – we didn’t do anything to celebrate, but it’s just a fun time of year. Thanks to our NOLA friends for sharing your pictures!

On Wednesday, a group of friends gathered at a favorite Irish pub and pizza joint (just trust me on this – it’s delicious) to celebrate my belated birthday. It was great to see some people I hadn’t seen in a very long time – we laughed, we ate, we drank – a solid Wednesday night!

Today is Valentine’s Day AND Chad’s first day at his new job!!! We’ll exchange cards and such tonight, but will forgo the day-of celebration since now we both have to go to bed early :) I am SO proud of him and excited for him – I can’t wait to hear about his first day when I get home tonight!

Tomorrow is when we’ll actually celebrate Valentine’s Day – we got a hotel in The Woodlands and plan to grab some Chinese takeout and just relax, just the two of us. Sounds pretty perfect if you ask me!

And then Saturday, as I mentioned, is inspection day! And that night we’re having dinner with the Brogans. HUZZAH!

This has been a GREAT week!!!

What a Week!

Standard

I had a really great first week at my “new” job! There was a lot of laughing and learning, and I am even more excited than I was last time I was here :) I’m on some very diverse accounts and have some steep learning curves ahead, but it’s so challenging and rewarding. Love it!

It was also my 27th birthday yesterday! Thank you all for your kind words of love via social media, texts, phone calls and cards. I have the best friends and family members in the world! Chad and I celebrated by having a very lovely dinner together at Americas in the Woodlands Waterway. It was gorgeous! And the food was delicious! Plus, they gave me a free piece of tres leches cake for my birthday – you KNOW how I feel about cake! Especially free cake! And as always, Chad spoiled me with gifts – a massage and a Hobby Lobby gift card, to help decorate our future home! Thanks also to my family-in-love for pitching in on those awesome gifts, and to my blood family for the awesome new work clothes! You know I needed them!

But the party doesn’t end there – on Saturday, we’re going to Papa’s house! Gigi is making crab legs and assorted Cajun goodies (she’s from Louisiana, you know!), and the whole family will be there. Whoo hoo!

And for those of you who’ve asked – no, we have not heard back on the house we put an offer on! BOO! We seriously have the WORST luck when it comes to house hunting!! What is the deal with that???

Congratulations, Mike and Carrie!!!

Standard

This weekend, Chad and I had the privilege of watching two of our great friends get married, Mike and Carrie. Mike and Chad met while both working at KTXS in Abilene, and I was introduced to Mike shortly thereafter. As an avid lover of both sports and Jesus, it’s no surprise that we all hit it off instantly!mike and carrie married

Mike met Carrie while she was his waitress at Texas Roadhouse. Nope, I didn’t make that up! After working up the courage to ask her out, the two have been inseparable ever since :) I remember the first time Chad and I met Carrie – she was still an undergrad, and we all went to church and then lunch at Jason’s Deli together, in Abilene. Being the protective friend that I am, I asked Carrie a million questions – and of course, she answered with all the grace and class that I’ve come to know and love in the years since. We had no doubt that these two would be married, and when Mike called Chad last winter to ask him to be in the wedding, we eagerly and immediately said yes – we wouldn’t miss it for the world!

Chad was one of the groomsmen in the wedding, and I had the pleasure of sitting among the throng of friends and family who gathered in the church on Saturday afternoon. As always, Carrie looked absolutely breathtaking – but of course, with an added “bridal glow!” There was so much love felt in the church – between both the Skow and Channer families, and all of their friends and loved ones – it was palpable. I cannot tell you how excited I am for these two to be married! Nor how jealous I am that they are now in Jamaica!

And to top it all off – they served a homemade lemon cake at the reception! Many of you know that I did not get to eat any of my wedding cake that I worked so hard to pick out – a lemon cake, my absolute favorite! And to find out that Mike’s mom made and decorated a homemade lemon cake for their wedding – and that I would actually get to eat a piece! – was definitely the icing on the cake (pun intended)!garneaus and skows

So congratulations to two amazing people, joined together by a love that only God could design. We are praying for you and wish you a lifetime of fun, happiness and blessings!

A New Year, A New Chapter

Standard

Well, 2013 is officially here! It’s shaping up to be quite the year for us – we have so many dreams for the year and know that it’s going to be one for the record books.

Ringing in the New Year TEXAS STYLE!

Ringing in the New Year TEXAS STYLE!

Of course, moving back to Houston on December 29, 2012, is the biggest change for 2012. Chad is changing careers and we’re saving up for our dream home in the Woodlands (God willing). And if a change of careers and locations isn’t enough, we hope to add one more to our family this year – a puppy! :)

We rang in the New Year with delicious Tex-Mex, Mexican beer (for Chad) and a margarita (for me), a movie (This is 40) and watching the ball drop from the comfort of the couch (I’m not feeling well, so we didn’t go out). It was so great to have just the two of us, spending time together and celebrating where life has brought us in the past year – and dreaming about where it will take us in 2013!

We hope everyone had a great time ringing in the New Year, and that 2013 brings you all the joy and prosperity you deserve!
