I always find it strange that we say “Happy Memorial Day,” when in reality something like “Somber Memorial Day” would be more appropriate. Before we get to the silly things we did over the weekend, let’s just pause and reflect on the fact that thousands have died defending and protecting this country – the ones we honor and celebrate on this day are not here to boat and BBQ with us.
With that said, Memorial Day weekend 2015 was a good one. Friday, I had a half day of work (very productive) and was able to clean the house the second half of the day (also very productive). We went out on a double date with another couple-friend of ours, Kristen and Jordan. Dinner was yummy and the conversation was the best part of the evening, but the restaurant’s service and atmosphere were a bit off.
On Saturday, we headed to Lake Livingston to meet up with the family for a day on the water. The sprinkles came and went, but we still had a great time on the boat with mom, Chris, Kourt and the monkey children. I have no pictures because phones and boats don’t mix.
Sunday was church, errands and laziness. Monday was baseball, gym and nail appointment. Monday night into Tuesday morning was RAIN RAIN RAIN and half of Houston is underwater. Everything in Spring/Klein is just fine, but the roads into my office are impassible and my building is without water and AC – so it’s a work from home day for me. Chad’s school district cancelled classes as there was some bad flooding off of 290 (where most of his ISD is located), so he’s enjoying a day of relaxing ahead of finals prep. As usual, Cooper was scared of the rain and got to spend 2-5 a.m. in bed with mom and dad.
Friday night was a night full of food, fun and baseball! Chad and I headed to Dickey-Stephens Park to watch the Travelers (AA Angels) take on the Naturals (AA Royals) with our friends Sara, Katie and Seth.
Sara and I had to do a bit of work first – there was also a group of our coworkers there for an appreciation event, and as the news/communication girls, we had to snap a few pictures – and Chad tagged along. He was totally okay with that, since it meant he got to come into our VIP area with all you can eat burgers, hot dogs and popcorn :) After the first inning or two, we headed to our seats on the third base side, where Seth and Katie were waiting for us.
Sadly, the Travs did not win – but I’m headed out to the day game now, so maybe we’ll have better luck today! It’s a team building activity :) We’re also going next Thursday for a church outing – so much baseball!! LOVE IT!!!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I hit the husband jackpot. Chad is 100% the best thing that has ever happened to me, and not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for blessing me with such an amazing husband. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any better, he went out and became a baseball player…kind of :)
For those of you who have known me for many years, you are well aware of my love of baseball and the weakness I have in my heart for baseball players (I blame it on the pants). Yes, I dated many a baseball player in my single days, but none of those worked out. Clearly, I sought the wrong type of athlete, as Chad was an awesome football player :) So my old school affection for baseball players bubbled to the surface again on Friday when Chad threw out the first pitch at the Arkansas Travelers game – the AA affiliate for the Angels.
- Totally relaxed and ready for his Minor League debut :)
Sadly, I wasn’t able to get a photo or video of the pitch actually happening – it all happened so fast!! Obviously, it was because he threw a 100 mph fast ball and I was busy talking to local scouts and agents about the multi-million dollar deal he is soon going to sign :) But Tim (Fox 16’s weekend sports anchor, and the guy I will face in week 1 of Fantasy Football) got video of it happening and it aired during the 10 p.m. news :)
Tim also took a cute picture of us after the pitch – thanks, Tim!
Waiting for that contract deal to come through... :)
As great as baseball players are, I’ll take the life of a Weather Wife – you know how I feel about alliteration :)
