Hello, everyone! I’m sure you could tell from the two-week hiatus that something big was up – and it was! Our wedding! After months of planning and years of dreaming, the Big Day was finally here – and it was everything we’ve ever wanted and so much more.
I could never begin to thank our friends and family for all of their love and support throughout the wedding planning and execution process – I can only hope that you walked away thinking it was all worth it! We are settling into married life well (despite my working 17 hour days the first week of living in the real world as a married woman), but of course the journey will continue on forever. Here’s a bit of what’s been going on in our lives since July 15, 2011:
1. WE GOT MARRIED. It was the most beautiful ceremony in the most beautiful church on the planet. Don’t believe me? Head on over to my Facebook page and check out the pictures I’ve been tagged in recently :) And for those of you in the Houston area looking for wedding venues – I highly recommend Woodlands Church and Belle Rose Maison. They were beyond amazing to work with!
2. WE WENT ON OUR HONEYMOON. Oh Mexico. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways… I mean really you can’t say anything bad about an all-inclusive, adults-only 4-star resort. Our room was right on the beach with a balcony that overlooked the ocean, and we could leave the doors and windows open to hear the waves crashing. There were 9 restaurants, 2 swim-up bars and endless ways to entertain ourselves. Can I go back now? Oh – and did I mention we got upgraded to first class on the way there? Because we got upgraded to first class on the way there. THAT was awesome!
3. WE CAME BACK TO ARKANSAS. Where I worked 17-hour days preparing to announce the new CEO of my company. Despite the long hours, everything went off without a hitch and it was an amazing professional growth opportunity. I am thankful that I was able to be a part of it, but I am also thankful it’s over :)
I think that about sums it up! But perhaps the pictures would help better…
So, lots of you have been calling/texting/talking/FBing/tweeting/etc-ing me about the wedding and whether or not I am excited. Of course I am excited! But I’ve been keeping it cool and just trying to focus on the day ahead of me, rather than the day 4 days ahead of me :) After all, there are still several things I have to accomplish both in Little Rock and in Houston before I say “I do,” not the least of which include making a huge presentation to my CEO today, driving 7 hours to Houston and getting a marriage license. So as you can see – there are plenty of things to overcome before I can TRULY focus on the wedding and get PUMPED.
However, I did get that feeling of OMG THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING last night as I began to pack my bag for the honeymoon. There is something about filling a suitcase with only flowy cotton dresses and bathing suits that fills my heart with joy :) I can’t wait to be on that perfect white sand beach, overlooking the clear, turquoise water – heaven!
…and then I checked the weather for Playa del Carmen for when we’ll be there. Rain (40-60% chance) EVERY. DAY. Dear reality – YOU SUCK. Why must you ruin my fantasy??
No, I’m not talking about the book (but that was a good read) – I’m talking about the 90 minute massage I got today, thanks to my wonderful fiance! With the wedding just around the corner, 90 minutes of relaxation and serenity were just what I needed, and I have to tell you, I feel so refreshed and relaxed right now! It was definitely worth every penny.
Little Rock ladies – check out Ava Bella Day Spa. It’s not so thrilling on the outside – right next to an Indian buffet restaurant in an older shopping center right off Shackelford (near Immanuel Baptist Church, for my fellow members!) – but they are top notch. Chad, of course, did all the research before buying me the spa gift card for our 4th anniversary (thanks, babe!), and found this to be one of the #1 spas in all of Arkansas, and I have to tell you – I couldn’t agree more!
This was my first ever 90 minute massage. I’ve had several 60 minute massages, but as the time ran out I always felt I was “just getting into it,” and then it was over. Sad indeed. However, the 90 minutes were PERFECT. I also have to give a shout out to my masseuse, Joshua (Josh). He was MAGICAL. The absolute perfect amount of pressure (I’m really picky about this, so that is a HUGE compliment), and funny, too! Seriously, ladies (and gentlemen) – request him!
And now, I will spend the rest of the day on the couch watching a Harry Potter marathon – because I wouldn’t want to undo all of the de-stressing I just did! :)
I woke up this morning and couldn’t help but think about how I’d feel when I woke up NEXT Friday morning – my wedding day. My friend Katie put it best by saying it was a mixture of surrealism and normalcy. It’s surreal to think that I’ll be getting married next Friday, donning my dream dress and standing in front of God, friends and family to declare that I will stand by Chad for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, till death do us part…but it’s also very normal. I feel like marrying Chad is the most normal, natural thing I could be doing, so there is an overwhelming sense of peace and calm in my life right now.
I’m not saying I won’t be a bundle of nerves and other emotions on the big day, but I think my primary emotions will be excitement and joy, not anxiety or stress – at least that’s what I’m hoping! I know I’ve been saying it a lot lately, and you may find it hard to believe with my working 12+ hour days, hopping on and off planes, moving and coordinating the last-minute details of a wedding, but I have honestly never been happier in my life. Sometimes I just sit back incredulously and thank God for His goodness and blessings, because I know nothing this good can possibly come from me or anyone else. I am just. so. happy.
Four years ago today, I met the man that would change my life forever – the one I would someday call my husband. That day is next Friday!
My life has been so tremendously blessed through knowing Chad – not only have I grown closer to him each day, but he has inspired and pushed me to be a better person in every way imaginable. I simply could not imagine my life without him, and I’m glad that I don’t have to! We’ve lived in 4 different cities (between us both), traveled thousands of miles to see each other and gone months between visits, but it was all worth it – I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
07/07/07 – lucky in love, for life!
I LOVE YOU!
Guess what – I’m part of another blog! That’s right, my good friend Jenni invited me to co-blog with her on the awesome new blog Pretty in Kate (Middleton).
Kate Middleton is a style icon for our ages, and for once, is a beautiful young woman who does not walk out of the house in barely-there ensembles and flashy, attention seeking idiocy. (Granted, I’m sure there is a certain dress code associated with being a Duchess, but if you go back and look at pre-royal Kate, she never dressed like a hussy then, either.) I have loved her and her style since the news first broke about her relationship with Prince William – er, the Duke of Cambridge – almost 10 years ago.
I’m not pretending that I’m anywhere near as stylish as Kate, but her affection for classic pieces and simple silhouettes has my heart. I also love that she doesn’t have to spend thousands of dollars to look like a million bucks – not that she isn’t capable of it.
So go ahead, run on over to Pretty in Kate to see what it’s all about!
…Chad fulfilled a fantasy of mine. Get your head out of the gutter.
He made me my coffee and gave me a kiss goodbye, then told me to have a great day at work and that he was proud of me :) Really, it doesn’t get any better than that!
